Verification record

Every claim in this article was checked against the abstracts of the papers it cites, by a separate pass that was given those abstracts and nothing else. A claim marked supported carries the sentence that supports it, quoted verbatim below.

Claim by claim

  1. Reviews of microbial biocontrol describe several mechanisms, including mycoparasitism, antibiosis, competition and induced plant defence.

Partially supportedUnclassifiedUnclassified. The study design could not be determined automatically.

“Trichoderma works in several ways to combat pathogens, including through mycoparasitism, antibiosis, competition, plant growth promotion, and stimulation of pathogen defenses.”

The sources specifically review the fungal biocontrol agents Trichoderma and Penicillium rather than microbial biocontrol generally, and Abstract 13 states 'stimulation of pathogen defenses' rather than explicitly 'induced plant defence'.

  2. Streptomyces species produce diverse antimicrobial metabolites with demonstrated activity against various phytopathogens.

Partially supportedUnclassifiedUnclassified. The study design could not be determined automatically.

“due to its capacity to generate diverse antimicrobial compounds, such as metabolites and organic compounds.”

The claim accurately combines findings from the abstract, but the full statement synthesizes two distinct sentences rather than being contained in a single verbatim span.

  3. Microbial consortia can trigger signalling cascades and hormonal cross-talk that alter plant secondary metabolite synthesis.

SupportedUnclassifiedUnclassified. The study design could not be determined automatically.

“Beneficial microbes of a consortium trigger complex signaling cascades leading to a dynamic regulatory strategy through which plants enhance their secondary metabolite synthesis. Secondary messengers and hormonal cross-talk further integrate the signal to transcription factors, which play a central role in activating or repressing the key genes of the metabolic pathways.”

The text explicitly details how beneficial microbes in a consortium trigger signaling cascades and hormonal cross-talk that regulate the genes controlling secondary metabolite synthesis.

  4. In a field study, Bacillus licheniformis strain SZMC 27715 increased sweet potato yield per plant, with the highest yield when cuttings were soaked and given two additional foliar treatments.

    SupportedField trialField trial

“In a field study, it was observed that strain SZMC 27715 had a potent yield enhancing effect in sweet potato, where a significant yield per plant increase was observed in all treatments (1.13, 1.09 and 1.40 kg) compared to the control plants (0.92 kg). The highest yield per plant was observed when the cuttings were soaked combined with two additional foliar treatments.”

The abstract explicitly confirms that field testing of Bacillus licheniformis strain SZMC 27715 produced a significant yield per plant increase in sweet potato, with the highest yield achieved by combining cutting soaking with two foliar treatments.

  5. Trichoderma performance in controlled environments often fails to translate to greenhouse and field conditions because of strain, crop genotype, soil and environmental factors.

    SupportedField trialField trial

“discrepancies between their potential results observed in controlled environments and the outcomes in greenhouses and field conditions. These differences are associated with context dependency, influenced by strain-specific traits, crop genotype, soil properties, and environmental factors.”

The abstract directly confirms that discrepancies between controlled environment results and greenhouse/field outcomes are influenced by strain traits, crop genotype, soil properties, and environmental factors.

  6. Field-level impacts of microbial biocontrol agents remain insufficiently explored.

Partially supportedLaboratory studyLaboratory study. Shown under laboratory conditions, not in the field.

“However, despite significant advances in laboratory research, the field-level impacts of MBCAs on tea plant microecology remain insufficiently explored.”

The claim generalizes the lack of exploration to all field-level impacts of microbial biocontrol agents, whereas the source specifically specifies their impacts on tea plant microecology.

What this does and does not prove

It proves that every DOI cited resolves to a real registered work whose returned DOI matches the one requested, that none of them is retracted, and that each claim has a named sentence in a cited abstract behind it.

It does not prove that the paper as a whole supports the claim. An abstract can overstate its own findings, and a sentence can be read out of context. That is why the quote is printed here rather than summarised: if the check is wrong, you can see that it is wrong.

Evidence grading is automatic and conservative. Anything it cannot classify is marked unclassified rather than flattered upward.
